The character originated with a role playing game that I never played. Although I spent tons of money on RPGs as a kid, I almost never actually "played" them. Instead, I liked to use their rules as a framework for developing and drawing charatcers. In the late 80s/early 90s there was a RPG called Cyberpunk 2020, which was almost prophetic in it's depiction of many aspects of the modern world we see today.

The character itself, like most of my drawings, was inspired by music. For some artists, (Tim Vigil comes to mind), technique comes very easily to them. For me it does not, so I had to be emotionally motivated to create artwork. In this case, the character was inspired by Skinny Puppy's "Warlock". Later images based on the character were inspired by Velvet Acid Christ, Ministry, and Marilyn Manson.

Like Sador, I also had a rough plot centered around this character as well. And, like Sador, this character was intended to be an anti-hero. This was originally supposed to be part of a mini-comic in the CD booklet for Calling Ov The Dead, but it never materialized. I came up with some broad plot points, but when it came to the specifics, I just drew a blank. What can I say...I'm an artist, not a writer. I was going for the feel of a benign version of the cenobites from Hellraiser...somthing along those lines.

"Braindead" was the name I originally chose for the character. I thought I was being very clever and original at the time, but apparently the name has been used before, several times. In Europe there apparently was a major movie character called Braindead. I was forced to change his name to Leviticus (Leviticus, for those of you who dont know, is one of the most judgemental books of the Old Testament). I later found out that even the Cyberpunk 2020 RPG itself has a minor NPC named Braindead as well. Ah well...so much for originality. But I still liked the name so much the name stuck.
